    some of my favorite sites…

    March 25th, 2008

i thought that i’d break away from the posts you normally get from me, which tend to involve the loss of a mobile phone, the breaking of bones and the general embarrassment of being me. instead, there’s been a flurry of really cool websites recently, so i thought that i’d share some of my favorites with you.

for those who don’t live in my bubble, my favorite site, without doubt is twitter. depending on where you are and who you know that uses it, your experience of twitter can be very different, but for me it acts as a great tool for communicating with friends all over the world in a simple effective manner. if you want to see a more eloquent description, check out wtfistwitter.com. having said this, a number of my friends have now worked out it’s a good way of checking up on me - so don’t say i didn’t warn you!

    Twitter

if you love twitter, the chances are that you’ll also love these other sites…

    • tweetscan.com - this is a great way of tracking any tweets that contain keywords or usernames that you specify
    • quotably.com - a tool for tracking conversations revolving around tweets from or in response to usernames of your choice
    • twittershare.com - a desktop widget that allows you to share files, music and video with your friends on twitter
    • tweetburner.com - allows you to keep track of what happens to the links in tweets shared with you, by you, friends etc
    • botanicalls.com - twitter put to a practical use - those poor plants will no longer feel neglected when you spend so much time at your computer!

here’s a random selection of some other sites i love (and when i say random, i mean random!)…

    • sxswscurvy.com - following the flu epidemic at sxsw, this was enough to put a smile back on my face - there’s something about not suffering alone that makes me feel better - selfish i know :)
    • postsecret.com - after the moving presentation by frank warren at sxsw, i’ve fallen in love with this site - it really makes you grateful for what you have in your life
    • a.viary.com - quite possibly the most beautiful design tool i’ve seen to date

ok, random post complete, i hope there’s something new in there for you to discover. i’d love to hear from you with any sites that you’d recommend…

    happy easter!

    journey from hell…

    March 19th, 2008

yes it really was that good! i know that it’s probably time for another video, but to be totally honest, i’m so traumatised from my journey home, i’m taking some time out to recover!

three connecting flights, when i can’t even drive a couple of miles home without getting lost was enough of a challenge in itself. things started to deteriorate as soon as i got to the check in desk and they asked whether my luggage was really only for one person. having learned my lesson from last time and taken as many items out to put in my hand luggage as possible, i walked away, shoulders in pain from the weight of the bags. having finally made it to my last connection, i was relieved to finally get seated, find there was a spare seat next to me good music on demand, aaaahhhh!

all of a sudden, the captain made an announcement to say that there was a technical issue and we would all need to grab our bags and disembark the plane. hours later and we were ready to take off. all of a sudden, an air stewardess approached me and asked whether anyone was sat next to me - of course not i responded. what a mistake.

i ended up sat next to a 90 year old lady that resembled the old lady from dr. dolittle. you know the one i mean? well just to give you a better picture, she had a very strong odour of curry, ate with her mouth open, sucked through her teeth, cuddled up next to me (almost close enough to dribble on my shoulder) and wet herself. okay, so i don’t know if the last point is true, but it smelled like she did. i swear.

now if there’s scientific evidence, please let me know, but i’m pretty convinced that 10 hours of trying not to breath cannot be good for you. as soon as the plane had landed, i was practically leaping towards the exit.

anyone who’s been to heathrow will tell you it’s not the easiest of airports to navigate, especially when you’re laden down with bags. after 2 circuits of the airport, i finally found the coach departure point and boarded my bus for the last leg of my journey. the coach departed and i was nearly home… well to be precise only 10 minutes into the journey when the coach crashed! yes crashed! the driver then blamed the passengers for distracting him before calling another coach to come and collect us, a whole 2 hours later. charming. never before have i visualised wanting to hurt someone…. i think i might have anger issues!

got to love public transport. the sooner i sort that private jet and limo the better :)
