today i sat on the train to london to attend internet world for carsonified.

sat opposite from me was a really loud lady who appeared to want the world to know that she was a media buyer. i came to this conclusion from the way she was speaking to her colleague whilst facing the carriage and tapping the keys with great assertion, as if to demonstrate her power.

“we’re award winning folks you know. we’re influencing the world with our ads. who else can come up with press and billboard campaigns like ours? we’re in a good position”.

the whole time i sat there (i feel bad for admitting to this) i kept thinking you’re wrong. guys and gals are out there creating fresh content online, apps that are connecting people and making their lives easier. it’s our generation and community that is changing the world.

in 20, 10, screw it, even 2 years, people will be consuming media in a totally different manner. the accessibility of online content will mean that this will become the preferred method for the masses.

i’m genuinely excited, so excited - to be part of this industry and proud beyond belief.

so i sat there, quietly tapping away at my iphone - checking my rss feeds and responding to email. she probably thought i was playing snakes onmy mobile, but we all know the truth ;).

as i’m sure that you all know, this week saw the arrival of earth day. because i’ve had lots of comments asking if i’d recycle, i thought that i would use this opportunity to prove that i really am green (in the recycling sense, not in the incredible hulk sense, that would just be weird). so here are a few simple steps i think could help our wonderful world…

good deed done for the day, i’m off to shine my halo. peace x

earlier today i wrote my first “proper” blog post for carsonified. i can’t tell you how nervous i was when i pressed publish. i love blogging. i’m passionate about it and i’m so grateful for the people that subscribe to my site. however randommel.com isn’t like any other site. it’s random. it’s my random unedited thoughts and i kind of like leaving it that way. but writing for carsonified where the audience might not realise *just* how random i am was kind of weird. not knowing how much mel is too much mel is quite a concern, but i eventually pressed publish and put it out there for the world!

the blog post looks at the different uses of twitter depending where in the world you are and how and who you access using the app. i really enjoyed writing about twitter as it’s a site that i love and use lots (i’m not sure why i’m telling you that, there’s always one of my tweets flying around the twitterverse!).

whilst researching tweets for the post, i started to look at some of my favorite tweets and thought that it would be quite amusing to share them with you…

i’d love to see the tweets you love… maybe leave a link below?

i hope to be back with the videos next week, working on mixing it up a little (wouldn’t go as far as to promise spoken words might actually be used though).

happy friday!

what with crafts being all the rage at the moment, i thought that i would get in on some of the action and put my origami skills to the test - with some interesting results!

don’t worry, i won’t give up the day job… how about i send the final product to the person who can show me the most creative thing they can produce? :)

i thought that this was apt given my current situation. as you can tell i’m still not over the bitterness. i’m working on it…

as you will have guessed, i’m not at all bitter about the fact that i don’t have my macbook pro at the moment. oh no. i’m not having to look at a vaio all day straining my eyes and giving myself premature wrinkles. i didn’t have to use my poor camera to make my random weekly video and then try and edit it online using jumpcut only to find that i couldn’t export the video when i was done. no not bitter at all me.

all unwanted macbook air’s gratefully received :) happy thursday!

last week, myself and my housemates played the game saint or sinner, which involves answering random questions under the supervision of a lie detector. it made me realise that i have quite a few embarrassing confessions. for some reason, i thought it might be funny to share a few with you…

count to 10 - somtimes when i’m apprehensive about doing someting, i count to 10 and tell myself something bad will happen if i don’t do it by the time i get to 10.

strawberry blonde - i tell everyone that hugo is strawberry blonde even though i’m quite aware he’s ginger.

favorite website - when i interviewed for carsonified, i told them my favorite site was ebay - i didn’t know any better :(

addiction - i have a shopping addiction and no intention of kicking it

topless - i sometimes don’t look away as quickly as i ought to when my next door neighbour walks past his kitchen window topless

lazy - i’m scared of not accomplishing enough in my life and yet still spend hours led in bed on a sunday morning

omg - occassionally i don’t understand internet slang terms and have to google them meaning i then worry i’m not down with the kids

champagne - i like to order champagne when i’m drunk, even though i don’t appreciate it as i should

snob - when people tell me smudgie has attitude, i proudly tell them it’s just good posture, but i secretly agree she might be a bit of a snob

underwear - if on the rare occassion i have a sunbed and forget my hairband, i use my underwear to tie back my hair

ok, that was too much information. don’t hate me. now that i’ve shared my inner most confessions with you, i’d ask you to share one with me in the comments below :)

p.s. no random video today, i’m so sorry - my mac is sick, i feel like a limb is missing. please have sympathy x

hugo dribbles.

my head becomes heavier.

hugo kicks me with his hind legs.

i nudge hugo.

hugo tries to eat my hair.

i give in and roll to the other side of the bed and face facts that i’m always going to be single and sharing my bed with an unforgiving animal. i do love him though (even though he’s snoring as i write this).

ok, dont hate me. i love apple. i love my macbook pro. i love my ipod. i love my iphone. i do.

however, it has to be said that it makes my handbag rather heavy. no the phone isn’t that big, i know, but bear with me…

because i have the iphone i need to carry a camera with me. i like to take pictures of things in my life to share with those i love and to look back on. the camera on the iphone just isn’t all that… i’m sorry but it’s true.

because i have the iphone i also have a sony ericsson because i like to send picture messages. ok ok i know it sounds like i’m probably really vain and like to take lots of pics - but we’re in a society where we stream our lives and i kind of love that.

all of that said, it’s quite possibly the prettiest, shiniest, and most widget-fantastic items i’ve ever owned. plus you know, it’s the web in your pocket, which means that i don’t mind my bag being that much heavier. anyway, it has to be good for toning your arms surely?

all in all, steve jobs owns a very big key to my heart… it will just be nice when you can get everything in one. i’m a girl, never easy to please :)

the iphone

i’ve just had a thought - yes me and yes a thought - no it didn’t hurt!

girls should be given an allowance by the government as the cost of living for girls is higher than that for boys… for example:-

  • guys get away with buying just briefs, girls have to buy sets
  • girls have to buy sanitary items
  • more girls than guys have long hair and therefore consume more shampoo and conditioner
  • girls are more prone to accidents (ok not girls, just me) so have to spend on repairs
  • good etiquette isn’t for a girl to drink a pint - and a good wine costs more than a pint

i think my argument is made - albeit not that strong maybe, but it’s something i think should be considered…. i might twitter downing street now…

rant over, enjoy your weekend :) x

it’s thursday, which can only mean one thing…. random video day - woot!

now imagine filming random video day when you’ve enforced a 90s only music rule on the team - this can only lead to bad things….

choosing the music kind of took me back, so i thought how cool would it be if i made a 90s mix tape…. this is what would be on it…

Boom Shakalak - Apache Indian
Boom Boom Boom - Quantum Feeling
Firestarter - The Progidy
Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice
I’ll be Missing You - Puff Daddy & The Family
Killing Me Softly With His Song - The Fugees
Wonderwall - Oasis
Jump Around - House of Pain
It’s Like That - Run-DMC
Brimful of Asha - Cornershop
Return of The Mack - Mark Morrison
I’ll Make Love to You - Boys II Men

have i missed anything? add your suggestions in the comments and i’ll make an imix!

happy good people day 2008! keep it random!
