But I also like the idea of you challenging others to make their own random videos and post them. You could offer a prize, but i think that participating in the internet community will be it's own reward. Also, since iGoogle is popular among your fans, perhaps a randommel theme, which could include any of the following - the purple/orange swirlies, the rss reader character, quotes from your video blog cue cards, and photos of everyone's favorite photogenic video blogger ;-) this should be interesting. After reading a few of your posts I have a few ideas. - As a woman in this industry it would be cool to see you pose questions to other girls of tech. I'm sure they still don't get as much exposure as their male counterparts. It could also be a handy resource for any aspiring Random Mels out there wanting to get a foot in the door. - As for a fun topic (always the best ones). I noticed your trademark, or signature is the :) You could get your readers to recreate that smiley in weird and wonderful places using any objects they saw fit, then photograph and send it to you. You could set up a flickr photostream where they could be viewed in all their glory. Every so often you could post the best ones here on your blog. Maybe someone would scrawl it in the snow after reaching the peak of Everest, or on a beach in the Caribbean, even Bansky stylee on a wall (although I wouldn't want to condone Graffiti).
