The Monday Currently; Week 6

Mel Kirk and cat Hugo

Happy Monday! I can’t believe it’s that time of week already. Many of the plans that I mentioned last week fell to pieces when the boy’s father became really unwell and was rushed to hospital. Thankfully he’s more stable now, but it’s enough of a reminder that life is too short to be doing anything other than what you love and to surround yourself with the people that mean the most to you.

So without getting too deep and meaningful, let’s get started…

reading articles that I’ve saved to Pocket. It’s taken me a while to work out the best way to consume my favourite blogs, particularly if I’m commuting in from Weybridge and 3G signal is patchy. I now use Feedly to keep up with all of my favourite sites and Pocket to ensure I can access the saved content offline. Simples.

listening to X-Factor playing in the background. I haven’t caught all of this season as there’s been so much going on, but I’m glad that someone WITH talent actually won.

thinking that not working with GG Closet every day is going to be so tough :’( For those of you that follow me on Twitter or are my friend on Facebook, you’ll know that she’s my bessie. It didn’t start out that way but soon came about after she started working for me as part of my team. I’m completely blessed to have a friend that is family to me and has supported me through thick and thin. I know that our friendship will always remain, but there will be something odd about not seeing her pull THOSE funny faces every day.

smelling fresh laundry…. the best. I’m not a great believer in routines, but fresh sheets on a Sunday/Monday is a must. OCD anyone?

wishing there were more days before Christmas. So much left to do.

hoping that my Mulberry bag sells. The buyer that bought it on eBay last night withdrew their offer. I didn’t even know you could do that?!? Godammit.

wearing my onesie. I’ve always said that I’d never be “one of those people” but it turns out that I am. Yes folks, I’m 31 and back in a baby grow.

loving a night writing in bed with Hugo. There’s been something on every night for the past few weeks, it’s lovely to get the chance to not make an effort.

wanting the new Aston Martin Vanquish. Having attended the Aston Martin Christmas party last week, I’m hoping that Santa is super kind this year. I’ve been an incredibly good girl.

needing to read a presentation before an early morning meeting tomorrow. Tonight, coffee will be my friend.

feeling excited and yet scared. This week is my last week at Jam. It’s been my family for the past two years during which I’ve learned so much and worked on some amazing campaigns, for which I’m incredibly grateful. I feel like I’ve achieved a lot in that time and now it’s the time for a fresh challenge. I’ve accepted the role as Managing Director at The Physical Network (Youth Army) which is a company focussed on advocacy marketing. I’m particularly interested to get more involved with peer-to-peer recommendations, offline as well as on.

Given my passion for brands to be transparent and authentic, I believe this will be a really good fit for me and will allow me to use my experience to create awesome campaigns that allow a brand’s consumers and fans to do their marketing for them, relaying the brand message in their own words.

It’s massively exciting, I’m just not looking forward to being the new kid again!

clicking through old posts re-categorising. It’s a geeky blog night. Easier said than done with your blog is more than 5 years old.

This week is due to involve more madness – drinks with friends, my leaving party (argh!), a scavenger hunt and a trip to Bristol Take 2.

I should add that I’ve had quite a few messages of people wishing that they had thought of doing something like this first. I borrowed the idea and tweaked it slightly – as far as I’m concerned, the more the merrier. Go on, get tapping away, you’ll feel better for it. Just be sure to share the link!

Happy Monday. Stay awesome.
